Caledscratch part 7 - Small steps and big sanding madness
This is a mix of many things. Shit got serious and were not going linear anymore… or something like this.
Image 1
I put some more layers to the handle. Now the first tone arm can be put between the cdj unit and the handle. Also, I started drawing on some of the buttons already.
Image 2
I put adhesive foil to it and cut it out.
Image 3
…and this is why: I sprayed it all with filler which makes it thicker and as I pulled off the foil, the parts are now a bit deeper. (I cant explain this somehow). Also I dont know whether the buttons will stick to the filler itself, so I used this method to stay on the safe side, too.
Image 4
And now for something completely different: This is the way the blade looked when the epoxid resine had dried. The stuff sticking out there is fibreglass! I had to cut it off of course.
Image 5
…and then I realized that it looks somewhat crooked. SHIIIIIIIIIIT. Even worse: The fibreglass made it so damn hard i couldnt really cut it anymore and it was a bitch to sand. PLAN CAREFULLY. This is what the disaster tells you. I told you, dawg.
Image 6
After a whole lot of sanding, cutting and cursing, I sprayed it with filler too. The other part needs to be on the sword but as its another color, I didnt glue it to the blade yet.
Caledscratch part 6 - Fiberglass and fake turntables
Image 1
This is a fiberglas mat. Cut to be put onto the main part of the sword and drenched with epoxid resin and sandwiched between the two parts of the blade to stabilize it and make it less SORDlike. Of course I did all of this and its mostly hardened by now. I just couldnt take pics of that process cause I used a lot of hardener and had to hurry and also… epoxid resin is nothing you want anywhere close to your phone.
Image 2
I cut out some more parts and layers for the CDJ unit and put it all together to see how awesome I am whether it fits this way.
Image 3
Closer look upon all those layers. Shit sure must be heavy. So we had to find a solution.
Image 4
Draw on….
Image 5
…cut out
Image 6
Noone will ever know….
Image 7
Put together and sanded.
Doesn’t look half as bad right? (will need some filler though)
Caledscratch Part 5 - Day of small bits and pieces
Since I made an experiment about stabilizing the blade with resin and fibreglass today and am still waiting for the results, I kept myself occupied with smaller parts of the sword.
Image 1
The “pick-up” on the upper tone arm (still has to be spraypainted)
Image 2
Double tone arm. Yep, makes perfect sense.
Image 3
Rotary disc (is this the right name for it..?) made out of 3 layers of sintra
Image 4
Rotary disc with engraved…. things. I don’t know what they’re good for but they’re there so I cant ignore them. Also put on the top layer of what is the potential CDJ unit.
Image 5
And the the other set of tone arms. I put a cube next to them so you can guess the hilarious size of them.
Caledscratch Progress Part 4 - Cutting out the blade
Image 1
I put my pattern onto the sintra
Image 2
I drew around the pattern
Image 3
Since the contours feature many pieces I want to cut out later as a seperate layer, I altered the outlines for the sintra-part of the blade.
Image 4
I cut it out.
Image 5
Shitty SORD you can barely hold it!!
Image 6
So I cut out yet another part to stabilize it
Caledscratch Progress Part 3 - Falling down all of these tubes
Image 1
Measured all the parts that should become tubes later and named them from A to T so I don’t mix them up
Image 2
Made a table with all the single parts to not lose track of them
Image 3
Marked the tubes
Image 4
Cut out all those tubes with a little help from my dad.
Shiiiiiiiiit this is going to be Ikea-sword
